Mambrui is one of the stranger corners of the Kenya coast. North of Malindi, the usual beach script starts falling apart. The sand turns into dunes, the coastline opens up, the wind gets involved, and suddenly the Indian Ocean is right there beside something that looks more desert than beach resort.
This short Wandering Africa video shows the visual side of Mambrui: the sand dunes, quad biking, open beach, Galana River Delta, Che Shale, heat, dust, wind, and that rougher north-coast feel that makes the place worth the detour.
About this Mambrui video
Mambrui is not Diani, Watamu, or Malindi with a different name. It has its own thing going on. The dunes are the obvious hook, but the wider area is what makes the trip interesting: empty stretches of beach, scrubland, river-delta scenery, baobabs, and coastal views that feel far less polished than the better-known beach stops.
Quad biking is the easiest way to cover the area properly. Walking around the dunes gives you a taste. Riding further out gives you the wider picture, especially toward Galana River Delta and the Che Shale side.
