Walvis Bay – Desert. Ocean. Wide, empty roads. Lowrise buildings. Wide, open spaces. Add port cranes, salt, wind, and flat ground. Until you get to the harbour and board the Marine Tour boat.
We came down from Swakopmund by road, and were joined by a seal almost as soon as we boarded. It was clearly familiar with the local fish economy. A pelican followed.
Further out, cold Atlantic air, beach seals, dolphins, and lagoon views. Walvis Bay looks better from the ocean than from the street.
I’ve been on similar cruises in other places, but this ranks a league above most of it. Especially the dolphins right next to the boat.
