(Or: The Part Where I Ask Everyone to Behave Sensibly Online)
Welcome to Wandering Africa.
By using this website, you agree to these Terms of Use. Nothing dramatic here. It simply means that if you browse the site, read the articles, click around, leave a comment, or otherwise spend time here, you are agreeing to the basic rules set out below.
If any part of these terms does not work for you, the sensible option is not to use the site. No hard feelings.
The Short Version
(Because I Doubt You Came Here Looking for This Page)
- You are welcome to browse, read, and share links to the site.
- Please do not copy, scrape, republish, or otherwise treat the content as if you found it abandoned by the roadside.
- The information on this site is provided in good faith, but it is not legal, financial, medical, or professional advice.
- Travel information can change. Roads wash out. Opening hours shift. Border procedures develop a personality disorder.
- If you leave comments or interact with the site, do so like a reasonable adult.
- I reserve the right to remove spam, abuse, nonsense, and other digital debris.
Who This Site Is For
Wandering Africa is a personal travel and content website. It exists to publish stories, observations, guides, photography, and other material related to travel in Africa and beyond.
The content is intended for general informational and editorial purposes. Some posts are practical. Some are reflective. Some are both. None of them should be treated as a substitute for official advice, local regulations, professional services, or your own judgment.
In other words: enjoy the content, but still check the visa rules yourself.
Use of the Site
You may use this site for normal, lawful personal use. That includes reading articles, navigating the site, sharing links, and engaging with public features made available from time to time.
You may not use the site:
- in any way that breaks applicable law or regulation
- to interfere with the site’s operation, security, or availability
- to attempt unauthorized access to the site, server, admin areas, or related systems
- to copy, harvest, scrape, reproduce, republish, or distribute substantial portions of the content without permission
- to post or transmit spam, malicious code, abusive comments, or anything else likely to make the internet worse
This should all be fairly obvious, but the internet has taught us not to assume too much.
Intellectual Property
Unless stated otherwise, the text, original photography, design elements, branding, and other content on Wandering Africa are owned by me or used with permission.
That means you may not reproduce, republish, sell, modify, distribute, or reuse material from this site in a way that goes beyond normal quoting, linking, or legally permitted fair use without prior written permission.
You are welcome to:
- link to articles
- quote short excerpts with proper credit and a link back to the original source
- share posts through normal social and editorial channels
You are not welcome to:
- copy entire articles
- repost images without permission
- run the site through a scraper and turn it into someone else’s “content strategy”
- hotlink images like bandwidth is a public utility
Accuracy of Content
I make a reasonable effort to keep content accurate and useful. That said, travel information has a habit of changing when nobody is looking.
Prices change. Hotels close. Roads deteriorate. Ferry schedules drift. National parks revise rules. Restaurants vanish. Entire stretches of practical information can become outdated simply because a ministry, border post, or local operator had a different idea on Tuesday than they did on Monday.
For that reason, all content is provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis. I do not guarantee that every article will always be complete, current, or perfectly accurate at the exact moment you read it.
Use common sense. Verify important details independently. Especially the ones involving money, safety, border formalities, or a 6-hour detour on a road that may or may not still be a road.
No Professional Advice
Nothing on this site constitutes legal, financial, investment, tax, medical, or other regulated professional advice.
Travel decisions, business decisions, health decisions, and financial decisions remain very much your own responsibility. I can tell you where I went, what I saw, what seemed useful, and what looked like a terrible idea. I cannot assume responsibility for decisions you make based on that information.
External Links
This site may link to third-party websites, booking platforms, tourism operators, maps, services, articles, or other external resources.
Those links are provided for convenience, reference, or because they seemed relevant at the time. I do not control third-party sites and am not responsible for their content, availability, accuracy, terms, privacy practices, or whatever fresh chaos they may have introduced since the link was added.
If you click through to another site, you do so at your own discretion.
Comments and User Contributions
If the site allows comments, messages, or other public submissions, you are responsible for what you post.
By submitting content to the site, you confirm that:
- you have the right to post it
- it does not infringe the rights of others
- it is not unlawful, defamatory, abusive, threatening, misleading, obscene, or spammy
- it does not contain malware, malicious links, or promotional junk masquerading as conversation
I reserve the right to moderate, edit, refuse, or remove comments or submissions at any time, for any reason, including because they are spam, abusive, irrelevant, or simply exhausting.
The goal is a functioning comment section, not a hostage situation.
Affiliate Links, Advertising, and Monetisation
Some content on the site may include advertising, affiliate links, sponsorship references, or other monetised elements.
This does not change the fact that the site is editorial in nature, but it does help cover the cost of running it. Servers, domains, tools, and travel are rarely funded by good intentions alone.
Where relevant, affiliate or sponsored relationships should be disclosed in line with applicable standards and common sense. If you click an affiliate link or ad, I may earn a commission at no extra cost to you.
You are, of course, under no obligation to click anything. Browsing in dignified silence remains fully permitted.
Availability of the Site
I do not guarantee that the site will always be available, uninterrupted, error-free, or immune to technical problems.
From time to time, the site may be updated, modified, suspended, partly broken, temporarily unavailable, or offline for maintenance, hosting issues, plugin misbehavior, or one of the countless other reasons websites decide to test human patience.
I reserve the right to change, withdraw, or restrict access to any part of the site without notice.
Disclaimer of Warranties
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, this site and its content are provided without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied.
That includes, without limitation, implied warranties of accuracy, merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, and continuous availability.
In plainer language: I try to make the site useful. I do not provide a legal guarantee that it will always be flawless.
Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, I will not be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, consequential, special, or punitive loss or damage arising out of or connected with your use of, or inability to use, this site.
That includes loss arising from reliance on content, technical failures, errors, omissions, third-party links, interrupted access, malware introduced by third parties, or travel decisions made on the basis of outdated or incomplete information.
Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot legally be excluded under applicable law.
Privacy
Use of the site is also subject to the Privacy Policy, which explains how personal data may be collected and handled through the site.
If you enjoy legal documents in pairs, that one is the companion piece.
Changes to These Terms
I may update these Terms of Use from time to time to reflect legal, technical, editorial, or practical changes.
When that happens, the updated version will be posted on this page and will apply from the date of publication. By continuing to use the site after changes are posted, you accept the revised terms.
This is standard practice, not a trap.
Governing Law
These terms are governed by applicable law, subject always to any mandatory consumer or user protections that apply in your jurisdiction.
If a particular section of these terms turns out to be unenforceable, the rest will continue to apply to the extent possible.
Contact
If you have questions about these Terms of Use, or believe something on the site infringes your rights, please get in touch through the Contact page.
Human messages are welcome. Automated legal theatre is less exciting.
